Dr. Gill Solberg is a specialist in postural disorders and has been teaching yoga since 1985. Immersed in the world of yoga since birth, Gill's mother Rachel Solberg was one of the first yoga teachers in Israel, and a very close disciple of Swami Venkatesananda and Sri Desikachar, son of Krishnamacharya. 

During the first years of his teaching Gill recognized the multifactorial nature of various postural problems that are seen in classes, and the difficulty in establishing an accurate definition of "posture norms."

He realized that understanding and internalizing the specific principles underlying the human movement system would enable him to move the body according to its inherent structural needs. He felt that with deeper knowledge and understanding, his yoga teaching could provide balanced asanas, improve training results and prevent injury.

During his graduate studies, Dr. Solberg specialized in Clinical Kinesiology and Postural Disorders. He is a diagnostician and head therapist in his private Yoga Therapy clinic and is a leading lecturer at various academic colleges in Israel in the fields of human anatomy, kinesiology and rehabilitative movement.

Dr. Solberg's book "Postural Disorders and Musculoskeletal Dysfunction", first published by Elsevier in 2007, has now been translated into three different languages, and is used all over the world as an academic textbook. 

In the past 8 years, Dr. Solberg, along with his partner Amit Gal Alon, has developed an advanced software that focuses on Yoga Functional Anatomy. First of its kind, this innovation is meant to upgrade educational standards in the field of yoga and human movement studies. 

This workshop is intended for yoga teachers and therapists, and professionals in fields dealing with human movement. What You Will Learn
Three Modules, Six Hours of Recorded Lectures and Practices

The basis for a balanced yoga session lies in the teacher’s ability to internalize the idea that people come in different sizes. Therefore, a responsible teacher relates to differences in learners and their needs, predicated on the movement patterns unique to each learner.

Since each postural problem depends on a plethora of causal factors, the presentation will set down some of the basic information needed by yoga therapists.

Module 1 and 2: Postural disorders of the spine: sagittal plane. 
1. Adapted yoga therapy program for people with kyphosis: Indications and contraindications in treatment procedures (theoretical background). This lecture focuses on a comprehensive integrative approach to treating hyperkyphosis. Its purpose is to expand and enrich the use of yoga asanas both therapeutically and in regular activity for improving postural patterns in daily functioning.

2. Adapted yoga therapy program for people with hyperkyphosis: (Part 2). Practical issues.

-The principle of moving from isolation to integration

- Kinesiological aspects of the vertebral column function during rotation: principles and applications in a progressive yoga training program.

- Why spinal rotation postures are receiving a significant amount of attention both in regular yoga sessions, and in the treatment-rehabilitation aspect.

Due to the kinematic chain mechanisms an interesting functional reciprocity is created between the vertebral column itself and other anatomical structures that are connected to it (The pelvis, and the rib cage). In this lecture, the complexity of various kinesiological aspects will be explained with regard to the treatment of hyperkyphosis.

3. Flat Back versus hyperlordosis - indications and contraindications in yoga practice.

Module 3: Establishing Motor Control of Core Muscles:
Principles and Applications in a Progressive Yoga Therapy Program

The core muscles are receiving a significant amount of attention, in the treatment-rehabilitation aspect as well as in training programs. Effective function of the core muscles is known to lead to a reduction of loads from the lower back, to improve back stability and to allow an efficient and safe transfer of loads between the upper and the lower bodies. These muscles have an essential role in keeping the static and dynamic stability of the skeletal system.

This section will emphasize the importance of motor control and the ability to revise it in the core system in regards to the body as a whole. A methodical division to training stages is meant to insure that any yoga trainee, even in the most basic level, will be able to gain control and skill of the core muscles.

The main goal is to present a progressive continual training program which, when performed continuously and consistently, will lead to the establishment of control of the core muscles.
